Case ID: 11987 Application Details: Automotive Part Assembly
Requirement:
To provide process monitoring and verify that each part assembly was pressed together with the proper force and to the proper distance, complete with signature waveform validation.
Case ID: 12731 Application Use: Multiple step sheet metal piercing
Requirement:
A customer who needed to automate processes to puncture sheet metal multiple times for each unique part.
Solution:
The press was integrated with an adjustable digital cycle counter. The operator would select a preset value on the counter and then activate the press. The press would cycle through operations according to the preset amount and the digital counter would then send an output signal once the total press cycles were achieved.
Case ID: 12604 Application Use: This press was ordered to replace a manually activated 2-post hydraulic press for bearing insertion.
Requirement:
The customer had a safety concern with their existing press and wanted an Air Hydraulics press equipped with a two-hand control safety device.
Solution:
This press was outfitted with a 3-position “Jog” circuit, which allows the operator the ability to stop the ram at any position in the downstroke by removing their hands from the finger switches. The ram will stop movement without returning to the home position. The operator continues the stroke by simply reactivating the finger switches or returns the ram to the home position via the yellow return button.
Air Hydraulics “Jog” Circuits also come equipped with a pressure initiated timer delay ram return circuit.
An adjustable pressure switch reading the hydraulic pressure in the front cylinder initiates a dwell timer located in the electrical enclosure. Once the hydraulic pressure in the ram cylinder reaches the trip point in the pressure switch, a signal is sent to start an adjustable timer. Once the accumulated value in the timer reaches the preset value, the timer sends the signal to return the ram to the home position.
Case ID:12524 Application Use: Drive Shaft Assemblies
Requirement:
This press needed to be built and configured to perform 10 unique pressing operations to build out 10 different subassemblies.
Solution:
The custom programmed Human Machine Interface (HMI) allows the operator to control each process digitally, with a graphical representation of the set of operations to be conducted.
Other custom modifications: This press was custom painted, included a custom frame to increase the daylight/throat depth, and also outfitted with an electrical enclosure, mounted to the press frame. This press also came equipped with a gooseneck machine light to illuminate the platen working area.
We recently had a customer contact us who has been using our presses for years to perform various assembly processes. It was time for an upgrade on some of their older equipment and they wanted to discuss options.
Requirement:
Needed to update a whole set of machinery to bring their operations up to speed with current day standards and regulations. Several of their machines were outdated in terms of safety features, controls and other functional elements but they needed to fit the machine upgrades into their current budget and buying was not an option.
Solution:
Considering their budget, we offered them the solution of sending 8 of their existing older Air-Hydraulics presses back to our facility for a complete refurbishment with upgrades. The work included full, detailed cleaning and testing of all 8 machines, rebuilding of cylinders, new paint jobs, and installation of all new and updated controls.
This repurpose project provided them over $80K in savings as opposed to buying complete new presses.
The older C-Series press shown here was one of the refurbished units with rebuilt cylinders, new PLC controls, remote mounted electrical enclosure, new two-hand safety controls with Emergency Stop Circuit, and selectable run/set-up mode of operation.

Life Fitness needed the technology usually offered by Air-Hydraulic’s Signature Analysis Press. However, this technology did not fit into their allowed budget for the project. Current owners of Air-Hydraulics Presses, Life Fitness again turned to Air-Hydraulics to find a press to fit their requirements and investment needs.
Life Fitness explained their current issue. “We are an assembly factory,” said Robert Langenfeld, the senior manufacturing engineer, “We needed it [an assembly press] to perform pressing operation on sub-assemblies such as the bearing and hub assemblies, and bearing and pulley assemblies. We need to verify that these assemblies are correctly pressed together with the proper pressure to assure product quality.”
Knowing that Life Fitness requirements did not require linear monitoring, but did require precise force monitoring, Air-Hydraulics designed and provided a press package to meet both the technical and financial needs suited for Life Fitness.
“In both purchase and performance, the Air-Hydraulics Model C-400 Press certainly meets my expectations,” Langenfeld stated. “It is suitable for the application, and in one respect, actually exceeded my expectations since it comes with three operating modes instead of two. I am not sure if we will use all three, but it is good to have the added flexibility if we need it.”
According to Langenfeld, the new press was delivered in a timely fashion and installed on schedule, according to his expectations. Satisfied with the quality products and service, Langenfeld recommends Air-Hydraulics and their assistance in your next assembly project.
